Dear ol Oklahoma,
It is I Tom Joad. This is a farewell as I am moving to the state of California. It saddens me to leave this beautiful place and my hometown. It's where I have lived all of my life. It breaks my heart to have to leave but I no longer have a job and everyone says there are jobs out in California. The weather conditions are also very brutal and has made it difficult to farm. I will come back and rebuild my life once I earn enough money to go back the 2000 miles. But, the weather is terrible and I hate it. Oklahoma, dry and dull, you give me nothing so now I must leave. There's nothing out here anymore! If it doesn't get better then I'm sorry to say that I will stay in California for it will benefit me in a long run and I hope to start a new life and a create a better future for myself and my family. It was nice while it lasted.
Always in my thoughts,
Tom Joad
